INSIGHTS
SMARTCHART
The SmartChart tab takes many clinical data elements from where they are stored in the EHR and brings them into one location, creating a complete clinical picture for users. This tab has multiple sub-tabs. On the main landing page, they include critical clinical information such as significant events and immunizations. The main page also indexes all documents and enables quick and easy sorting/filtering, including a "word search" option that additionally filters documents.
INSIGHTS
The Insights tab uses a Microsoft Power BI visualization of clinical data for each patient-including code status, number of admissions, number of ambulatory clinic visits, most common specialists, radiology reports, lab reports, problem lists and much more. All of this clinical data is collected in one place with the ability to sort/ filter the different sections to understand very quickly what the patient's medical needs are. The goal was to provide a 30-second snapshot of the patient to a busy provider in urgent situations like ED visits, Urgent Care visits and inpatient codes.
VENOUS MAP
The Venous Map tab is a visual representation of the major blood vessels of the body with color schemes to highlight vessels with occlusions and/or missing vessels. The aim of this tab is to guide the clinicians in decisions about central line placement. The data again is stored in many locations (radiology reports, echo reports, IR procedure notes, OR documents, etc.) and are all pulled into one visual that displays the results for clinical review within seconds.
CUSTOM COMMUNICATIONS
The Custom Communications tab enables secure texting to families by an automated system as well as manual secure messaging from clinical staff to families. This tab helps clinical staff share updates on patient progress with the family if they are not present on rounds or in the hospital. This tab also links to an internal secure messaging application for staff. Staff can quickly instant message other staff members through this tab without leaving the EHR.
Custom tabs and dashboards have increased efficiency, quality and safety
The Power BI Hospital Safety dashboard was used 29 out of 30 days
The Type I Diabetes dashboard was used 58 out of 60 days
The Watcher/Sepsis Alert dashboard was used 53 out of 60 days
"If you build it, they will come. EHRs have historically collected large volumes of data with the hope that the data would be used to improve patient care. With the custom tabs, our clinicians can spend less time searching for data and more time reviewing data and making clinical decisions for the patients."
